I quit and joined Occupy Wall Street. I pushed policymakers to use the power they had to protect people.<br></p><p>In 2022, I was honored to join the very regulator created to address the failings of the financial crisis and ensure that American consumers are no longer an afterthought: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.</p><p><span style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);"><strong style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);">I swore an oath on my first day to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.&nbsp; I take that oath of office seriously.</strong></span></p>

<h4>Ban AI Data Centers</h4><p>Data centers drive up electricity bills, destroy land that could be housing or farms, and burn massive amounts of water and energy to fuel an AI hype cycle that's making a handful of tech billionaires richer.</p><p>Maryland’s 6th district is now in the crosshairs.</p><p>I support a federal ban on new data center construction. Right now, residents are being asked to subsidize the infrastructure of multi-trillion-dollar tech companies while watching their bills go up and their land get carved up. When the AI bubble bursts (and the financial signs are already there), working people will be left holding the bag, as we always are. I've spent over a decade taking on Big Tech and the financial sector. I know exactly how this story ends if we don't act.<br></p><h4>Transportation</h4><p>Maryland's 6th district has already shown what's possible. Free bus service in Montgomery County has saved residents money during a crisis in the price of gas, boosted ridership and cut emissions. I'll push for federal funding to expand free and frequent public transit across the district, restore long-distance Amtrak service to western Maryland, and build out infrastructure for the people who can't or don't want to drive everywhere—including safe bike lanes, sidewalks, and accessible pedestrian routes.</p><h4>Small Business and Family Farms</h4><p>Small businesses are getting crushed by corporate consolidation, predatory lending, sky-high commercial rents, the cost of providing employee healthcare, and tariffs that hit them harder than the multinationals they compete with.</p><p>I'll fight for policies that will dismantle monopolies in agriculture, retail, tech, and finance. I'll work to make the SBA serve the small businesses it was meant to, not corporate landlords that game the system.&nbsp;</p><p>MD-06 is home to some of the most productive farmland in the state—from Adamstown to Washington County's orchards to the family farms scattered across the Catoctin foothills. Corporate consolidation in agriculture has gutted family farms, driven down what farmers earn, and raised food prices. Tariffs and trade chaos have wiped out export markets. The Trump administration’s USDA cuts eliminated technical assistance, conservation programs, and research that farmers depend on. And data center developers and land speculators are buying up agricultural land at a pace that's pricing the next generation out of farming altogether.</p><p>I'll fight to restore and expand USDA funding, including the rural development grants this district relies on. I'll support right-to-repair laws so farmers actually own the equipment they buy. I'll push for antitrust enforcement against the meatpackers, seed companies, and grocery monopolies that squeeze farmers from both sides. I'll defend farmland from speculative buyers by supporting beginning farmer programs, land trusts, and a federal land-use policy that prioritizes food production.</p>

<p><strong>Build libraries and rec centers, not ICE jails and data centers.</strong> Schools that support students and educators, reliable and efficient transit, thriving libraries—I'll prioritize more public goods and services for Maryland's 6th district.</p><p><br>ICE is terrorizing immigrant families, Big Tech is feeding inaccurate facial recognition to local police, and LGBTQIA+ folks are losing federal protections every day. State power is being weaponized against ordinary people. <strong>I strive to make this country a place where everyone is safe.</strong></p>

<h2>Our Communities</h2>

<p>Our tax dollars should benefit us, not billionaires. That means ensuring truly affordable housing, free child care, Medicare For All, and creating a future where we don’t just survive, but enjoy our lives.</p><h4>Housing</h4><p>From Frostburg to Frederick, families are being priced out of neighborhoods they call home, unable to afford housing that costs half their paycheck. Meanwhile, large investors buy up properties and corporate landlords jack up rents.&nbsp;</p><p>I'll push for strong federal tenant protections, including penalties for landlords that neglect their properties, and a cap on rent increases. I'll work to dramatically expand the federal housing supply through direct public investment, not tax credits, and increase support for first time homebuyers in the district.</p><h4>Healthcare</h4><p>In a nation as wealthy as ours, no one should ration insulin, skip a mammogram, or stay in an abusive job just to keep their health insurance.</p><p>I support Medicare for All. The healthcare industry is one of the largest employers in Maryland's 6th district; but while the industry sees record profits, its workers are being sold out. Medicare for All would increase care, stabilize hospitals and support the workers staffing them.</p><p>I’ve worked for a decade with the Debt Collective, an organization that’s abolished hundreds of millions of dollars in medical and student debt. The tie that binds the 99% is that we’re all in debt, often for our basic needs.<br></p><h4>Child Care and Early Education</h4><p>The cost of raising a family in America has become immoral. Monthly childcare bills can rival, or even outpace housing costs for many families and after-school programs are scarce. All the while, the very people we entrust trust with our kids—early childhood educators, after-school workers, paraprofessionals—are paid poverty wages.</p><p>While other wealthy countries treat childcare a right for all, we treat it as luxury for the few.</p><p>Federally funded, universal childcare is not a radical concept nor are livable wages for early childhood educators, or a dramatic expansion of after-school and summer programming. Working parents shouldn’t have to choose between a paycheck and supervision for their kids. As a mom myself, I know firsthand how steep these costs are—and how much steeper they get when you're navigating a system that wasn't built for you.<br></p><h4>Education</h4><p>Teachers are underpaid, underappreciated, and overworked. And under the current Administration, they face relentless attacks by ideologues who'd rather history be erased than taught. Students deserve to learn about hard truths and develop the critical thinking skills to wrestle with them. We need more federal funding in public schools to create an environment where both staff and students can thrive.&nbsp;</p><p>Public colleges should be free, as they are in the rest of the industrialized world. Robust trade education and quality apprenticeships should also be readily accessible. Federal student debt has kept a generation from buying homes, starting families, and realizing professional goals. As a longtime advocate for student debt cancellation, I won’t stop working until we’ve meaningfully tackled the student debt crisis.<br></p><h4>Queer and trans rights</h4><p>I know what it's like to be told my family doesn't count. I've navigated the legal and bureaucratic roadblocks that make queer parenthood harder. I've watched cruel attempts to erase queer and trans kids from libraries, classrooms, and history.</p><p>In Congress, I'll oppose all attacks on trans people, defend access to gender-affirming care, and push back hard against book bans and curriculum censorship. I'll fight for the material conditions queer people most need: secure housing, stable jobs, and accessible healthcare.</p>

<p>From housing to healthcare, Wall Street has made everything your family needs to live just another asset class to bet on.&nbsp; The small businesses and family farms that define Maryland's 6th district are being chewed up by corporate consolidation and bankruptcies. <strong>I'll fight for the people who call this district home, not the companies pricing them out.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<h2>Our Families</h2>

<h4>Ending Forever Wars at Home and Abroad</h4><p>I have lived my entire adult life watching this country pour decades and trillions of dollars into reckless wars that made us less safe, killed countless people, and enriched a small circle of defense contractors. The first gulf war. Iraq. Afghanistan. Iraq (again). U.S.-funded weapons fueling the genocide in Gaza. Lebanon. Iran.</p><p>I support the Block the Bombs Act to withhold the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel and demand Israel’s compliance with U.S. and international law. I support an end to throwing money at every overseas conflict while telling working people at home that we can't afford healthcare.</p><p>I co-sponsored a resolution at my union calling for a ceasefire in Gaza—one of only two federal worker unions to do so. I will not be quiet about this in Congress, and I will not take a dime from AIPAC or anyone trying to buy my silence.<br></p><h4>Abolish ICE</h4><p>ICE now has a budget larger than all other law enforcement agencies combined and is operating as the President's personal police force. ICE agents are terrorizing neighborhoods, separating families, and violating constitutional rights with impunity.</p><p>In Maryland's 6th district, people are afraid to go to medical appointments and caretakers are afraid to send their kids to school. Meanwhile, the people elected to represent us have been advancing budget bills that fund this violence and waving through Trump's nominees who carry it out.</p><p>ICE cannot be reformed. It needs to be abolished. I'll work to defund immigrant detention and deportation infrastructure. I’ll advocate for dramatically expanded legal protections and representation for our immigrant neighbors.</p><p>The people of Maryland's 6th district are running toward danger to protect their neighbors. The least Congress can do is meet them there.</p><h4>Ending state surveillance</h4><p>Facial recognition is being deployed on Americans without their knowledge, without their consent, and without meaningful oversight. It's used to identify protesters, harass immigrant communities, and build databases that will outlive whatever administration is in office. It misidentifies Black and brown Americans at staggering rates. And it's being aggressively pushed into local police departments—including in Maryland—by the same Big Tech firms I spent years investigating.</p><p>I'll fight to ban federal use of facial recognition outright and to cut off federal funding for state and local agencies that use it. I'll push to strengthen privacy laws so data brokers can't sell your location history to ICE or anyone else, and I'll defend the right to protest, organize, and exist in public without being tracked.</p><p>I'll also push to ban federal use of the predictive policing and "risk assessment" algorithms that are quietly automating racial profiling across the country.</p>

<p>I'm a Jewish American who was raised on the teaching of repairing the world. <strong>I won't be quiet about Gaza and I won't take AIPAC money.</strong> I will work to put an end to the atrocities funded by our tax dollars and hold accountable those who made it possible.</p>

<h2>Our World</h2>

<h4>Unions and Worker Power</h4><p>I'm a proud union member (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Union, NTEU 335). If elected, I'll work to strengthen the National Labor Relations Board, ban employers from writing off union-busting consultants as tax deductions, and guarantee a federal right to strike without retaliation. I'll defend collective bargaining in the public-sector and federal workforce, both of which are under direct attack from the Trump Administration. I’ll push to pass the PRO Act, which would protect workers from the anti-union laws that have rigged the playing field against them for decades.</p><p>Unions have always led to increased wages, improved working conditions, and more democratic workplaces.&nbsp;</p><p>I love having a union and I want you to have one too!</p><h4>Federal Employees</h4><p>Maryland's 6th district is home to thousands of federal workers—civil servants at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Fort Detrick, the VA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and dozens of other agencies—who keep this country running. Trump and DOGE have spent the last year terrorizing them: illegal firings, frozen pay, gutted agencies, and threats to force career civil servants into political loyalty.&nbsp;</p><p>I experienced this firsthand when Donald Trump fired me from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for standing up to DOGE.</p><p>In Congress, I'll not only fight to restore the agencies DOGE dismantled, but to also pass enforceable protections against any future attempt to gut our civil service. I'll defend federal workers’ rights to unionize and collectively bargain.&nbsp;</p><h4></h4>

<p>For 50 years, worker productivity has increased while worker pay has stayed the same. The right to organize, and the unions that help guarantee it, are under attack. The Trump Administration has made a sport of terrorizing federal employees and undermining the critical services they provide. I've personally been on the receiving end of these efforts and <strong>I know what we are up against.</strong></p>
